Lunch/Playground Paraprofessional
Thornapple Elementary
Reports To: Building Principal
Pay Grade: Starting at Grade 1, Step 1, $12.42 per hour
Schedule: 11:30 AM - 1:15 PM / 1.75 hours per day / 5 days per week / School Year / 38 weeks
Job Summary: Through meaningful playground leadership; enable and engage students and enjoy group interaction and exercise while maintaining safety of all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Experience working with children
- Strong desire to help children
- Knowledge of first aid procedures/protocol
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise students at playtime and maintain established safety standards
- Organize group games and activities
- Assume responsibility for children playing safely on playground equipment
- React properly to injuries and administer first aid if needed
- Promote fairness and good sportsmanship
- Check playground equipment and weather conditions for safety
- Direct movements of students to and from the playground
- Complete disciplinary reports for incidents of serious or repetitive misbehavior
- Assist in cafeteria as needed
- Consistent and reliable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety of students.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
Evaluation:
In accordance with the Administrative Support Staff Agreement.
