Job Summary: Play a crucial role in providing English language instruction and support to elementary-identified Multilingual Students (MLLs). The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of language acquisition and proficiency in teaching students whose primary language is not English. The EL Teacher will be responsible for providing effective instruction, support, and resources to facilitate the academic success of multilingual students. This role involves collaborating with colleagues, administrators, and families to create a supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of all learners. The role involves student support at multiple elementary schools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Michigan teaching certificate
- ESL endorsement (or bilingual endorsement)
- Proven experience working with multilingual learners in a K-6 educational setting, including knowledge of language acquisition theories and best practices for English language development.
- Strong understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, students, and families.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and develop instructional materials that meet the needs of diverse learners.
Essential Job Functions:
- Implement instructional strategies and curricular materials tailored to the needs of multilingual learners, focusing on language acquisition, literacy development, and content-area proficiency.
- Provide differentiated instruction and support to meet the diverse needs of multilingual students, including those with varying levels of English proficiency and educational backgrounds.
- Assess students' language proficiency and academic progress using various formal and informal assessment tools, and use data to inform instruction and intervention strategies.
- Evaluate growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, and other staff members to plan and co-teach lessons integrating language and content instruction.
- Design and deliver targeted interventions and support services for multilingual learners who require additional assistance developing English language proficiency and academic skills.
- Foster a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom environment that values and respects all students' linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate regularly with students' families to provide updates on academic progress, discuss strategies for supporting learning at home, and address any concerns or questions.
- Stay current on best practices, research findings, and trends in English language learning, and incorporate this knowledge into instructional practices.
- Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills for teaching multilingual learners.
- Collaborate with school administrators and other stakeholders to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and policies that support the success of multilingual learners.
- Use educational technology tools and resources to support language learning and instruction.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional strategies.
- Maintain open and regular communication with families regarding student progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
